Richard Allaway

Teacher, geographer, resource creator & Learning Technologist

Richard Allaway is a teacher, geographer, resource creator, and learning technologist with more than twenty years of classroom experience across England, France, and Switzerland. He began his career at New Mills School in the UK, went on to become Head of Geography at the International School of Toulouse, and since 2009 has taught at the International School of Geneva, where he teaches IB Diploma Programme Geography, Environmental Systems and Societies, and Theory of Knowledge. He is also a former IB Diploma Programme Geography examiner, having previously examined at A-level.

In 2006 he founded geographyalltheway.com, now a long-established resource used by geography teachers and students around the world, and he is co-founder of International Geography Training, a continuing professional development programme for international teachers. Since 2009 he has led more than 35 IB Geography workshops, in person across Europe and the Middle East and online, and he moderates the International Baccalaureate's online Diploma Programme Geography communities.

Richard contributes regularly to geography networks and CPD, and writes and speaks on geography teaching, curriculum design, and the use of technology in the classroom. His photography, shared on Flickr under Creative Commons, has been used in published textbooks, books and teaching resources.
